Journeying from Broken to Bold

"wreck my life"
   By Mo Isom

About this Book:

Inspiring Story of How Brokenness Leads to Bold Faith
Jesus promises peace and trouble for his followers. But most of us accept the peace and are confused and angry when adversity comes our way.

All-American soccer star Mo Isom knows the struggle firsthand. While her life seemed like a success, she was battling an eating disorder, the suicide of her father, and a horrific car accident. It wasn't until God wrecked her life that she discovered the glory of renewal through Jesus Christ and that wreckage can be sacred rather than scarring. Readers take the journey from broken to bold with her and learn to surrender their lives to the King who was wrecked on their behalf.

Endorsements"Mo reminds us that brokenness is actually the very place God meets us the most, and the place where we can find Jesus like never before."--Jefferson BethkeNew York Times bestselling author ofJ esus > Religion

"Every person who picks up this book will be challenged, entertained, and more connected with God by reading it."--Annie Downs, author of Let's All Be Brave

My Thoughts:

I  really despise watching and playing sports. I am just not an athletic or competitive person. BUT, I absolutely loved reading this book!! Although, the person involved is an athlete, the true story that she tells is one that will pull you into her story of despair and keep you there until she meets a joyful ending.

Mo's story applies to all of us, whether we are sportspeople or not. She tells us with honest and clarity what hardships she faced as stumbling blocks kept her from enjoying her life. We often shy away from the subjects that Mo addresses as they are not the most pleasant or desirable to experience. She describes her battles in a clear, sensitive manner, with honesty , faith and grace. Is life easy???? No way!! Mo honestly tells you the depths of despair that she had to reach before she would call out to the  Lord to pick her up and carry her for a while. Is it easy to ask for help?? I do NOT believe so!

Mo's message throughout her story  reminds us that brokenness is the place where God most often meets us. Redemption is available for all of us. Mo's life story exhibits faith, taking what is broken, making it whole and beautiful.

A story especially meaningful for young people who think this could never happen to them!!

The Most Beautiful Wedding Story!! Don't Forget to Enter the Giveaway!

    "The Wedding Shop"

       By Rachel Hauck

About the Book:

Two women separated by decades. Both set out to help others find their dreams when their own have crumbled.
It’s the early 1930s, but Cora Scott is walking in stride as a career woman after having inherited her great aunt’s wedding shop in Heart’s Bend, Tennessee, where brides come from as far away as Birmingham to experience her famed bridal treatment. Meanwhile, Cora is counting down the days until her own true love returns from the river to make her his bride. But days turn into months and months to years. All the while, Birch Good continues to woo Cora and try to show her that while he is solid and dependable, he can sweep her off her feet.
More than eighty years later, former Air Force Captain Haley Morgan has returned home to Heart’s Bend after finishing her commitment to military service. After the devastating death of her best friend, Tammy, and discovering the truth about the man she loved, Haley is searching for her place in life.
When Haley decides to reopen the romantic but abandoned wedding shop where she and Tammy played and dreamed as children, she begins a journey of courage, mystery, and love.
As Cora’s and Haley’s stories intertwine through time in the shadow of the beloved wedding shop, they both discover the power of their own dreams and the magic of everyday love.
My Thoughts:

I must admit that Rachel Hauck has become one of my favorite authors!! Her well crafted stories, beautifully written, grab my attention from the moment I look at the beautiful covers! Even before opening the book, I know that I will soon become part of the touching adventures. Weddings are a topic near and dear to every woman's heart and Rachel writes with her unique, creative storytelling style.

"The Wedding Shop" is Rachel's newest novel set in Heart's Bend , Tennessee. A perfect setting in which the author interweaves the historical and modern. The characters are beautifully created with such detail that you immediately identify with each. Two very different women shared their lives and used one another's experiences to attain happiness. What a talent, Rachel Hauck has, to relate two perspectives  and combine them into the most touching story! The strands are pulled together in the most unique and touching fashion. I easily identified with both Nora and Cora and their lives became mine!

The plot is well developed, full of unexpected twists and turns that keep the reader glued to the page. As the tension builds, God's love and care shines through . There is a very clear message throughout the book. God cares for us in all situations. We need to trust and depend on Him to get us through.

This is a five star book!!! Don't miss it!!

Guest Post from Rachel Hauck
Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share The Wedding Shop with you. This book is one of my favorites.
While all books are my “babies,” this one found a special place in my heart.
This standalone novel is part of the Wedding Collection – The Wedding Dress and The Wedding Chapel – and it came to life when I discovered the story of Cora Scott, a 1930s wedding shop owner.
At 30, she’s an old maid, but the best “bride’s maid” in fictional Heart’s Bend, Tennessee. But she’s in love with a charismatic, charming river boat captain.
The contemporary heroine, Haley Morgan, is a retired Air Force captain returning to Heart’s Bend to restart her life. She’s recovering from a broken heart. The handsome, dynamic, charming man she loved was nothing but trouble.
Returning home, Haley is set on keeping a childhood promise she made with her best friend—to open the old wedding shop.
The shop is legend in Heart’s Bend. Haley grew up with stories of Miss Cora and the shop, hearing the town’s mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers reminiscing about their “day in the shop,” walking down the grand staircase in their wedding gown.
But in 2016, the shop is dilapidated, neglected and in need of more money than Haley possesses.
While writing this story, I had to ask a lot of questions. Why reopen the old shop? Why not just open a new one?
Haley was a combat veteran, deployed to Afghanistan twice, why would she want to open a wedding shop?
I also investigate the meaning of the shop to the town? To Cora? To Haley?
As I developed the backstory for the characters, the shop and the town, Cora’s came to life. She fascinated me. I admired this fictional woman. She exuded ingenuity, courage, and deep, deep devotion.
On the other hand, Haley was a bit of a mystery but from the start, she saw value in something no one else did.
What if we all saw value in people or places others wanted to reject?
Isn’t that what Jesus does for us?
The heroes of the book, Birch and Cole, are just stellar guys. Princes among men. I love writing about slightly wounded but strong and tender men.
The theme of family and community populates the story. Also, how misconceptions and preconceived ideas often ruin relationships.
Booklist gave The Wedding Shop a Starred Review and called it, “Spellbinding.”
There’s a lot of fun drama in this book! I hope you enjoy spending time with Cora and Haley, the men they love and the shop they bring to life.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Connect with me at www.rachelhauck.com.

Tapestry AND Secrets!!

         "A Tapestry of Secrets"
         By Sarah Loudin Thomas

This book is the third in the Appalachian Blessing series by Sarah. Although it can be read as a stand alone book, I found that having read the previous two books, made it even more meaningful, as I knew many of the characters. I felt as though I was once again visiting their families.

Secrets are not good for us to bear , as Perla Phillips discovers. The burden becomes heavier as the years wear on. For decades, Perla has hidden the truth of a decision that still grieves her and has her wallowing in guilt. Upon seeing her granddaughter , Ella struggling in a similar way, she finally decides her secrets must be shared, regardless of the consequences. However, did she wait too long?? The opportunity is snatched from her in a most unexpected way.

Sarah Thomas weaves this tale spanning generations in a unique way, weaving the interlocking stories of two  women as they develop relationships, family , faith and the choices that will affect the rest of their lives.

I found the characters to be realistic and so well developed that I , at once, was able to identify with them. I felt their every pain, confusion, and challenge. Perla was a rather quirky elderly woman who at times appealed to my sense of humor while other times making me want to shake some sense into her head!  Ella was a younger version of her grandmother, repeating some of the same errors that were made in the past. A heartwarming story results as these two women connect and work through the hidden secrets of the past and present.

The plot, although slow moving , moves steadily, allowing the reader to fully absorb what is going on in the background of the story. I found myself totally engrossed from beginning to end of the book.

Above all, this book exemplified the need to "come clean" and not keep secrets hidden! The result is much too damaging to all. It was an inspirational story that totally celebrates the legacy a family passes from generation to generation.

A great read!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Your brother is a serial killer! How do you deal with that?!? Be sure to enter the giveaway!

 Color of Danger
 By Alexa Verde

Luke couldn’t save his fiancée from the Smiling Killer, but he’ll do anything to prevent more murders, even ask for help from the serial killer’s sister. Finding a kindred tortured soul in Mari, Luke is determined to keep her alive, but it’s not easy to protect the stubborn ex-rebel.
To solve the mystery, renew her faith, and find love and redemption, Mari has to face her most dangerous enemy — herself.
“One of the best Christian romantic suspense novels I’ve ever read.” – JoAnn Durgin, JoAnn Durgin, USA Today bestselling author

My Thoughts:

For those who love a book full of suspense and mystery, look no further! This is the perfect read for you!!  From the opening page to the end, I was  caught up and lived in Rio Azules, alongside the characters, totally embroiled in the trials, fears and life threatening situations. It is hard to believe that this author is relatively new to writing. Her talent in grabbing your attention and keeping it is outstanding.

The characters were extremely well developed in such a way that I became part of each of them. Every fear, worry and confused thought became mine. The main character, Mari was a unique woman who had gone through more in her life than any of us can even dream of. More important was the author's talent of showing the growth of Mari's self esteem , not only able to accept herself  as she is but to also accept God's grace , helping her to become a better person, one who cares deeply not only for others, but for herself.

The plot development was excellent ! It moved quickly and steadily, keeping me on the edge of my seat, with my heart throbbing.  Around every corner were unexpected twists and turns. Just when I thought that I had the mystery figured out,  another obstacle appeared in the  path. All I can say is "WOW!"  A mysterious killer was on the loose!!  Who was this person?  How did he/she stay so hidden?? Who would be next in the killer's path??

The rather delicate subject of child abuse was handled in a sensitive, understanding fashion.  Trust issues caused by this background is evident throughout the story. The strong Christian emphasis was present throughout the terrorizing events. God is always with us. Even at our lowest and most hopeless times, He is with us.

This is definitely a five star book!! I am eagerly awaiting this author's next creation in this Rio Azules Trilogy.  Please, Alexa, don' t make me wait to long! This was an AWESOME book!!

Read a Great Book and Enter Lillian Duncan's Giveaway!

         "Game On"
         By Lillian  Duncan
About the Book:
Politics is no game when a stalker nears and there’s nowhere to hide.

A run for the senate is just a step on the road to the White House for Congressman Lucas McMann. But his public profile has put him in the middle of a crazed gunman’s twisted game of stalking. If he wants to win the election and reclaim his life, he’ll need the help of the one person who’d rather leave their past behind them.
Private Investigator Nikki Kent knows how to dig up secrets and discover those who exist in the shadows. She should. She’s good at hiding secrets of her own. Can she risk her own discovery for someone so desperate for her help? For the first man who broke her heart?

My Thoughts :

It seems as if I am "meeting" many authors new to me these days! I must admit that I am always a bit reluctant to agree to review a book that I know nothing about! However, this particular novel was NO disappointment. I enjoyed every moment of time spent with Lucas and Nikki! This author will now be on my list to watch for future new creations!

The main characters are realistically described and well developed. I easily identified with them during the first few pages and soon began to live their adventures alongside them. Nikki became my close friend as she dealt with her many hurts and challenges. It seemed as if life just kept throwing things at her to attempt to get her to her lowest point. As a P.I. , she had to deal with digging up many secrets in the past, that she would have rather left behind. I think we all know that feeling, do we want to have everyone know about the mistakes we have made??? Nikki impressed me with her courage to put her troubles aside in order to help someone who broke her heart and caused her much emotional pain. I kept wondering if I would be able to be as noble.

The plot moves steadily and at a pace that keeps the reader engaged throughout the book. There are just enough unexpected twists and turns to keep one guessing as to what will be around the next corner. Stalking is a very fearful situation and plays a major part in this book.

A Christian message is evident throughout the book. Keeping one's faith is difficult in times of trial, as Lucas shows us. Through his strength, he does succeed in winning Nikki back to her  faith. Will he be able to resume a relationship with her after all of the intrigue of this mystery is settled??

This was a good read, perfect for those of us who love Christian romantic suspense books!

Guest Post from Lillian Duncan

Everyone’s heard the saying: just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean someone isn’t out to get you! That’s the premise of my new political thriller, GAME ON.

Congressman, Lucas McMann wants to throw his hat into the political arena once again, this time for the U.S. Senate. It’s the next step on his journey to the White House, but he believes he’s the victim of an elaborate stalking game.
The problem is no one else believes him.
He can’t move forward until he stops the game. He can’t stop the game until he discovers who’s behind it. To do that he needs someone who will believe in him enough to help him get the proof he so desperately wants.
And he knows just the person.
If only she’s put their past behind her.
Private Investigator, Nikki Kent makes a living finding out other people’s secrets, but she has one of her own. When Lucas shows up asking for her help, she refuses. She can’t take the chance of her secret coming to light. But her new-found faith won’t let her turn her back on someone who is desperate for her help—even if he was the first man to break her heart
Game On is filled with enough twists and turns that will keep you turning those pages late into the night. I really had fun writing it and hope readers will have fun reading it. My publisher outdid herself with the book trailer for GAME ON so I hope you’ll check it out at: https://youtu.be/t6MK2UGB1P0.

The message read, "DO NOT RETURN TO TEXAS!' ( Don't Forget to Enter the Giveaway!)

   "a memory worth dying for"
       By Joanie Bruce

About the Book:

“Do Not Return To Texas!” Marti Rushing gets the message, loud and clear. If she returns to Texas, her life is in danger. If she stays in Tennessee, she’s safe. But when she receives a letter telling her that Daniel, her ex-husband and the love of her life, is dying, she knows she has to defy the stalker and return to Texas to see him. Three years ago, Daniel accused her of things she couldn’t remember doing. Without waiting for an explanation and after four wonderful years of marriage, Daniel kicks her off of his family’s Quarter Horse ranch. Now, three years after their separation, he walks into her art reception in Tennessee and acts like he doesn’t remember her. Does the memory loss have anything to do with the letter she received, or is Daniel pretending? Is he the one stalking her, or is it someone with a deadly, sinister motive? Ignoring the deadly warnings, she leaves for Texas, but on the way there, the attempts on her life begin.

My Thoughts:

This is a new author to me. Why oh why have I not discovered her sooner??  Joanie Bruce has the ability to make my pulse race and my heart throb! Her talent to create a book full of action, suspense and long lasting meaning, is outstanding. I was on the edge of my seat and almost had to have this book pried from hands, in order to get meals and attend to daily activities. I could NOT get this mystery out of my mind! The entire book took me less than two days to read, as I just could not stay focused on anything else, until I read the conclusion.

The characters are extremely well developed in a realistic way that immediately gets the reader involved in their lives. I lived for a short time in their lives, feeling their fears, hurts, challenges. In order for me to love a book, I must be able to identify with at least one of the characters.  I was able to do this with no problems!! I perhaps became a bit too involved as I wanted to reach out and give Marti a big hug and tell her that her life just had to get better. Not only were the main characters well described, but also the secondary ones. This is an unusual feature in a book.

The plot was simply intriguing! Losing one's memory, the heroine confused as to how her marriage disintegrated, numerous lies, all make the mystery and suspense darker and deeper. There are twists and turns that keep one guessing as the story progresses. If you love books that are fast paced and full of drama, this is one that you shouldn't miss.

A Christian theme runs throughout the plotline. There is a clear message that we should be faithful and depend on God , regardless of our circumstances. Even when the world seems full of evil and dark and dreary, there is hope. Joanie Bruce is to be commended on her fine Christian writing.

Definitely a five star book!! Don't miss it!!

I am impatiently awaiting her next novel!

Guest Post from Joanie Bruce

Hello everyone. My name is Joanie Bruce, and I’m happy to visit with you today and tell you a little about myself and my book, “A Memory Worth Dying For.”
The idea for this book actually started from a simple memory. Years ago, I watched a movie about a woman whose father-in-law ruined her marriage. That thought raised a question in my mind: What would happen if a married woman was kicked out of her home by her father-in-law, and her husband never stood up for her against his father?
Many questions and solutions emerged from that one idea, and the brainstorming began… One answer lead to another problem, and the answer to that problem produced another question. When all was done, the plot for this book emerged.
After adding suspense, mystery, love, and a growing spiritual aspect to that one idea, I was able to combine them to form an interesting plot. Finally, after several months of work, “A Memory Worth Dying For” was born.
I love this story because it shows forgiveness at its highest peak. Marti and Daniel have a wonderful marriage, but because of greed, selfishness, and a colossal misunderstanding, that marriage is dissolved. Even though they are separated, the love they feel for each other never wanes. Marti’s love for Daniel throws her into a dangerous situation, but that same love also gives her the perseverance and determination to stay in Texas and fight for the happiness of the man she loves even though her life is threatened if she does. I’m sure you’ve all read the Bible verse Joel 2:25a. “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.” That verse is the one Marti clings to throughout the story.
As I do my writing each day, I pray that God will teach me something. Writing this book taught me so many lessons. Not only did I fall in love with the characters, but with the idea of practicing forgiveness in my own life. It also reinforced the knowledge that I should never jump to conclusions and get the facts before I make decisions. In this book, Daniel jumped to a conclusion and listened to gossip which caused the break-up of his marriage and unnecessary stress in his life.
Years ago, one of my Sunday School students gave me a book for Christmas called “In His Steps.” If you remember, that book started the campaign that encouraged you to ask “what would Jesus do?” before every action. I was convicted while reading that book because I knew I wasn’t doing things in my life for the Lord’s glory. So the next Sunday in church, I dedicated my life back to the Lord, and I began praying He would use me in whatever way He chose.
After those sincere prayers, the Lord began showing me how I could use my life and the talents He gave me for Him. It was shortly after that prayer I found out I had the ability to paint portraits, and not long after starting my art career, my first attempt at writing was accepted for a publishing contract. I realized then that following the Lord’s leading in my life and an attitude of gratefulness and obedience all worked together so the Lord would bless my efforts.
If you take anything away from this post, I hope it will be that the Lord can use anyone who is willing to be used. If you surrender your talents to him, no matter what your age or limitations, God can still use you for His glory.
Thank you for listening to my ramblings. I hope and pray that God blesses each of you in all of your accomplishments.
