 My Thoughts:

As Shannon Brown is a new author to me, I wasn't sure what to expect when reading her book! I had not read the other two books in her "Alaska Dream Romance" series, thus was a bit weary of my reaction to this novel. HOWEVER, this book met my expectations  of a good book and there was total satisfaction when I had completed reading.

The setting was so well described that I felt that I was back visiting Alaska. I do love that state and easily imagined myself in this environment. It was perfect for the characters and plot.

The main characters came alive in my imagination as they were realistically and well described. Holly and Adam encountered struggles and challenges that were easy for me to imagine myself faced with. As they walked their rather rocky journey of life, I was right alongside them , feeling their every emotional moment. Humor was included at the perfect moment to cause the reader a giggle and lighten the mood. I loved the fact that Adam had such beautiful experiences with Holly's children. For a single guy, never having had to deal with kids, he was a natural!

The plot started off with action that caught my interest immediately. There were a few twists and turns that surprised me along the way. I did find that the  plot, although flowing smoothly, lagged a bit in the middle of the novel. However, it didn't stop me from totally enjoying the tale .

The underlying theme of the importance of honesty and faith was a positive addition to the story. Making good choices is so important in our lives, as these characters discovered.

All in all , I recommend this book as a light , enjoyable read!! I will be watching for more books by this author!

Open Doors
When a character opens the door and steps from her world into mine, writing about her is easier. Holly Harris in Crazy About Alaska is a real estate agent, and I was once one. I’ve driven clients around and shown them houses only to have them go a different direction. My husband and I bought a new house a few years ago, so I have tales to tell from that experience too. (Readers may think the purple shower is made up. Think again.) I chose to bring a college professor into her life as a love interest. I’m married to one.
Some of myself always finds its way into a story. Sometimes, it’s just something I might like to do. Holly’s sister Jemma rehabs furniture in Falling for Alaska, book one in the series. The idea for her business came while I was watching HGTV’s Flea Market Flip. Taking trash and making it beautiful sounds like something I’d like to try. Jemma also dislikes coffee and drinks tea. (Here I am again.) But she is not exactly me. She’s cooking challenged, and I’m a good cook.
Does the story become about the author when she inserts herself into it? Reality is only a fun fraction of the book. Holly has two men vying for her affections. That never happened. (It might have been fun if it had!) She also has five-year-old twins. I never experienced that.
By far the most challenging of the sisters in the series was Bree in book two, Loving Alaska. She’s a doctor, and my knowledge of the medical profession comes from sitting on the exam table, not from doing the exam. I spoke with doctors I knew and brought her to life. But Bree isn’t all made up either. She despises being in nature, especially camping. I’ve camped on a frozen river, beside a lake after canoeing or boating in, and many more places, but I’m with Bree and hotels are greatly preferred. There I am in the story again.
Reading the books I’ve written helps you know who I am. I’m a woman with a big imagination who enjoys bringing stories to life. Oh, and that slightly sarcastic sense of humor you may notice with Jemma and Holly? That might be from me as well.

Vannetta Chapman's new book leaves your heart pounding !! WOW!!!

"Light of Dawn"
By Vannetta Chapman

Synopsis:

Before Dawn, What Dangers Lurk in the Darkness?
For nine months, since a devastating solar flare caused a complete failure of the electrical grid, Shelby Sparks and her diabetic son, Carter, have been living at the ranch of Shelby's high school sweetheart, Max Berkman.

Mostly insulated from the chaos surrounding them, Shelby and Max discover that the Texas government has fled the capitol and is barely maintaining control of the state. The governor needs volunteers to search for the new federal government, but no one knows exactly where it might be located—if it even still exists—or what perils await those brave enough to take on the mission.

Compelled by Carter's desperate need for insulin and their God-given sense of duty, Shelby and Max answer the governor's call and set out on a treacherous 600-mile journey, where they will experience the terrifying effects of unrestrained anarchy. If they have the faith and fortitude necessary to reach their destination, what will they find when they get there?

In this thrilling conclusion to the Remnant trilogy, America is left teetering between total collapse and the dawn of a new and vastly different reality.

My Thoughts:

It is no secret that Vannetta is one of my all time favorite authors!! Not one of her books has ever disappointed me! This newest book in her Remnant Trilogy , the third and last, is simply marvellous!! Never would I have guessed that I would be reading Dystopian Fiction and loving every moment!! I resisted reading this genre for a very long time, however, when a well known popular author (who I just happen to highly respect and love) ,  begins a new series, of course, I just had to try it out!! All I can say is , "WOW!" These three books are so realistic and tackle so many believable problems that could easily occur in our lifetime, that I have to admit , they left me deep in thought and yes, even caused some worry and fear. What would I even do if the electrical grid failed?? How would I cope??

The characters are so vividly and realistically described , that I immediately was able to identify with them. I walked their treacherous journey of life, alongside them, feeling every fear, amazement and challenge that they encountered. The underlying theme  exhibited how much the little things in life are and become so important. I certainly found myself thankful for the world as it exists in the present. This book could be read as a stand alone, however, I found that it meant much more to me, as  I was  revisiting my good friends in their troubled world from which I had escaped for a short while.

The plot is packed full of unexpected twists and turns. Never could I presume to know what would happen next in these dear peoples' struggle to survive.  The edge of my chair became my reading position, as my heart pounded in fear and anticipation. This third book leaves the reader feeling satisfied and loose ends are tied up. Hope for a brighter future does exist, even in the darkest situations.

I may have completed reading this novel, but the events live on in my innermost being. Should I be preparing for a similar future, stockpiling what I consider the everyday necessities of life??? Or, maybe , I need to prepare my heart for the challenge of carrying on, despite tragedies. Would I have the deep faith that is required to carry on???  I just know that the story made me think very deeply!

A FIVE star book!! DO NOT MISS THIS SERIES!!!

I received this book as a gift. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

Nancy Mehl has written another winning novel!!!!

                  "Dark Deception"
                    By Nancy Mehl

Synopsis:

Kate O'Brien's quiet life in small-town Shelter Cove, Arkansas is shaken when her past suddenly comes roaring back to life. Four years ago, she and her twin sister were attacked by an elusive serial killer. Only Kate survived, and she's been in witness protection ever since.

When new evidence arises to suggest the convicted man wasn't the murderer, she's subpoenaed to testify in the new trial. Afraid to go back into that world, Kate only agrees if Tony DeLuca, the deputy Marshal who protected her during the original trial, escorts her to St. Louis.

Tony readily takes on the assignment; Kate's beauty and inner strength made more of an impression on him than he expected. But when Kate's safety is threatened, Tony must race against the clock to keep her alive and put this ugly case to rest before anyone else gets killed.

My Thoughts:
If you love murder mystery, suspense thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat with your heart pounding, look no further. Nancy Mehl's newest book is the best mystery that I have read in a very long time!! This is definitely a novel that you can NOT put down until you have read the last page. I was kept up long after my bedtime, as I was so caught up in the intense story. Sleep would not come until I knew how the story ended. "Deep Deception" is the second in the "Defenders of Justice" series. It can be read as a stand alone but it does add to the depth of the plot if you have read the previous book, "Fatal Frost".

The characters are described in such a realistic , vivid fashion, that you immediately identify with them. I quickly became immersed in their world of fear. Every emotion that Kate experienced was part of me. I travelled her rocky journey in life, fearing for my next breath.

The plot was full of unexpected, shocking twists and turns. The reader is constantly in a state of wondering what more can possibly happen. Can your heart take any more ??? I was completely hooked by the end of the first chapter and found myself wanting the story to last forever, yet at the same time , desperate for answers!!  Nancy has a unique ability to insert a strong sense of Christian morals and faith into her plot. A strong belief in the Almighty is present theme underlying this frightful tale.

"Dark Deception" is definitely a five star book that should not be missed! Can hardly wait for book three!!!

This book was a gift. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.
