Tapestry AND Secrets!!

         "A Tapestry of Secrets"
         By Sarah Loudin Thomas

This book is the third in the Appalachian Blessing series by Sarah. Although it can be read as a stand alone book, I found that having read the previous two books, made it even more meaningful, as I knew many of the characters. I felt as though I was once again visiting their families.

Secrets are not good for us to bear , as Perla Phillips discovers. The burden becomes heavier as the years wear on. For decades, Perla has hidden the truth of a decision that still grieves her and has her wallowing in guilt. Upon seeing her granddaughter , Ella struggling in a similar way, she finally decides her secrets must be shared, regardless of the consequences. However, did she wait too long?? The opportunity is snatched from her in a most unexpected way.

Sarah Thomas weaves this tale spanning generations in a unique way, weaving the interlocking stories of two  women as they develop relationships, family , faith and the choices that will affect the rest of their lives.

I found the characters to be realistic and so well developed that I , at once, was able to identify with them. I felt their every pain, confusion, and challenge. Perla was a rather quirky elderly woman who at times appealed to my sense of humor while other times making me want to shake some sense into her head!  Ella was a younger version of her grandmother, repeating some of the same errors that were made in the past. A heartwarming story results as these two women connect and work through the hidden secrets of the past and present.

The plot, although slow moving , moves steadily, allowing the reader to fully absorb what is going on in the background of the story. I found myself totally engrossed from beginning to end of the book.

Above all, this book exemplified the need to "come clean" and not keep secrets hidden! The result is much too damaging to all. It was an inspirational story that totally celebrates the legacy a family passes from generation to generation.

A great read!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
