"Magnolia Storms"
By Janet Ferguson
Synopsis:
Maggie Marovich couldn’t save her father or her home from Hurricane Katrina, but she’s dedicated her life to meteorology so she can warn others when the monster storms approach. Except…she works three hours inland and rarely risks returning to her childhood hometown of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Both her single-parent sister and the ship pilot Maggie once loved refused to leave the Coast, despite Maggie’s requests. Now a hurricane’s headed toward Mississippi, and Maggie’s sister is seriously injured, leaving Maggie little choice but to head south—into the storm. The water and tides flow through Josh Bergeron’s veins, and he can’t imagine giving up piloting—even for the love of his life, the infuriating Magnolia Marovich. He tried to move on without her, marrying and having a child. But after his wife abandons him and his little boy, his career choice is threatened by the weight of his parental responsibilities. Moving next door to Maggie’s sister and sharing their child care seems like the perfect set-up. Until Maggie blows back into town. Being forced to lean on Josh for help washes up the wreckage in Maggie’s faith. Where was God during the destruction of Katrina? Why do some prayers seem to go unanswered? Between the hurricane looming in the Gulf and another gale raging in her heart, can Maggie overcome her past and find the trust to truly live?
My Thoughts:
Not too long ago, Janet Ferguson was a new author to me. I must say, that in a very short time, she is quickly becoming one of my favorites! I absolutely loved this new series entitled, "A Coastal Hearts Novel"! Now, I am eagerly awaiting Book Two in this series.
The characters in this novel are so well described and realistic that you immediately identify with them. Maggie was one such character, a loyal, compassionate friend, somewhat stubborn and one who easily steps up to the bat when it comes to self preservation, especially when it involves Josh! I felt her every fear, joy, challenge, alongside her. Romantic as well as emotional tension was created every time Maggie encountered Josh Bergeron. A favorite character of mine was a little boy, Josh's sweet three year old son. He won my heart quickly as he did Maggie's .
The plot was well developed with plenty of unexpected twists and turns to keep a reader totally engaged, wondering what would happen next. The underlying theme of God being our Comforter in all situations shines through loud and clear in the rocky moments that life throws at these characters. Life becomes stormy but there is only one way to get through these times. God is our refuge in good and bad times! We all have to learn to count our blessings even in the roughest moments, slow down and see that God has it all planned out for us!!
A GREAT book!! I can hardly wait for the next one!! This is an author to watch for!!!
This book was received as a gift. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.
