Review of a Fantastic Historical Romance- a book you just can't put down!

This novel takes place in  1895 in Newport, during a glamorous season of fashion.  The main character, Lucy Scarpelli  is in the midst of deep financial and family problems. She has been living with her mother and sister, along with an aunt and uncle in a very small apartment, making a living sewing and completing small  mending jobs, trying to help keep the family afloat in tough times. Her father had died four years before, leaving them destitute and this young lady decided to take on the responsibility of caring for her family.  Then comes the tragedy of all times- their building is going to be destroyed and they will be evicted , with no where no live and no money with which to find a place. The aunt and uncle bail out, which ends up being a great blessing- but not known at the time!

Lucy, while searching for a place for her family to live, discovers a dream come true- a small apartment, plus a job for herself, mother and sister. God is at work. While working on menial sewing tasks, Lucy has become a wonderful talented designer. As luck would have it, along with some heavenly intervention, she meets the socialite, Rowena Landgon, as she is in the shop having a wardrobe designed. Rowena needs the skill possessed by Lucy to create clothing which will hide a physical injury. Lucy, ends up at the wealthy home of Lucy to fulfill her duties. An unusual friendship, at this time of history- a commoner being a friend of a very wealthy person.
Rowena is betrothed to a man due to her parents' plans, while Lucy meets the man of her dreams.  Lucy's family is also called to the home to help prepare clothing for  the family, involving her younger sister in a romance , as well.  A romantic situation occurs that could spell disaster for all!!
The lives of three woman become intertwined along with their unlikely suitors- entangled in a web of secrets. Will any of them find happiness? Read to find out!!

Nancy is a talented writer who keeps you captivated with the twists and turns  and the mysteries in this book. Her characters are very real people with very realistic struggles and desires. They are described with such artistic detail, that they become your friends and you want to help them fight their battles.  A book well worth reading- BUT only if you wish to stay up half the night to finish that last chapter!!
